Ice Breaking💜

PPD 1041 SOFT SKILL AND BASIC VOLUNTEERISM

ACTIVITY: ICE BREAKING

NAME: SYAZA IZZATI BINTI ISMAIL

MATRIC NUMBER: 71742

FIRST ACTIVITY: MARSHMALLOW CHALLENGE

This time, we were given 20 wooden sticks, one meter tape, one meter of string , and one colored sponge. We were instructed to build a tallest free-standing structure in 20 minutes. We divided our group into three sections, the first group making sure that material like one meter of tape was cut and sufficient. The second group, building the site and the third group constructing a strong pillar for construction .

In addition, it challenges us to communicate well with our team members, to work together, to test our patience , to be innovative , to be creative and to solve problems. Furthermore, we use the material we provide to succeed. While carrying out this activity, many ideas are drawn from each other’s ideas to ensure our building is strong. Therefore, we can conclude that receiving a team member’s opinion is very helpful.

This time, it only takes 5 minutes to complete this task. We are also working to make sure that our build is stable and strong. At the time, we were very excited to complete this task and hope that challenge will succeed. The last step is to make sure the sponge that is placed on the build doesn’t ruin our build. This last step is very challenging for our patience.

We also have a bit of pressure due to the time being almost over but it can be done well. Therefore, if we want to do group work, we can’t just follow our instructions, we also have to accept other people’s ideas. If we only have one person’s opinion then, surely not the members certainly members are not responsible for this. In doing this, we must ensure that everyone is satisfied with the proposed proposal, and does all the work that is planned to achieve good results.

Finally, we were able to successfully overcome this challenge. The result of good discussions between team members and also the guidance of the most awaited lecturers until the work is done. From this experience, we have many benefits.

SECOND ACTIVITY: BLIND SQUARE – THE PERFECT SQUARE

This activity has taught us how to be a leader and communicate well with team members. This activity also trains the person to obey  the group leader’s instructions, because if we do not hear the directions , it is unlikely that this activity will not be carried out smoothly. In this activity also, we were directed to cover the eyes with black cloth and cottan pads. Then , we were given 1 long rope to carry on the activity. While conducting the activity, we were instructed  to shape  the shapes to be round, triangle, rectangular and star-shaped. The activity is very tempting to do what we are asked to do in the dark. With the clear instructions of the group leader, it really helps us to continue the activity. We need to hear every detail of the message coming out of the group leader’s mouth.

The last shape is the star shape. The form is very difficult for us to do, but with the spirit that comes from each member of group ,we are excited to make it happen. The moral here is, we must not give up too early in spite of our efforts. We try to find a way with the help of the leader of the group, so that the desired shape is successful. Finally, we were able to form  a star shape, we were so happy when our lecturers said our shape was successful.

I am very fortunate to have a very good team member who is passionate about running an activity. Their enthusiasm has influenced me to do something that makes it successful and not easily discouraged. I wish I could continue this spirit even after this, I am directed to belong to another group. This activity really fun for me. It did a lot to reduce my stress.
