ACTIVITY: CAREER EXPLORATION

NAME: SYAZA IZZATI BINTI ISMAIL

MATRIC NUMBER: 71742

This activity, we were assigned to choose a career that suited the course we took. We split our group into several sections so we could  get things done quickly. My friends and I were looking for information that suited the course we were taking, marketing, while the guys posted what we told them. When looking for information about a career as a marketing, we plan to choose a career as a marketing executive. At the time of the proposal, all members of the group agreed with the proposal. The consent of all members of the group is very important, in order to avoid conflicts of ideas. After that, we looked for information on the requirements of becoming a marketing executive. We also set our goals for becoming marketing  executive such as having a CGPA 3.50 and a degree in marketing. In this activity a little bit can motivate us to continue striving for success because to find a career like this is very difficult.

To be a marketing executive, there are many skills we need to have such as computer skills, because computers are the most important gadget for marketers. In addition, they should also communicate well with the public , develop leadership qualities, and be able  to effectively manage events. We were very happy that at least with this activity , we have been able to find a suitable career path for us. Not only this, it also relieves our stress and strengthens the relationships between our classmates. Collaboration between team members is important, so the work we do can be done successfully. In our group, all members help each other. These activities can open our minds to doing something with the utmost earnestness for what we wants as a good career in the future. I hope we all achieve the goals we want as well as other groups.

ACTIVITY: ICE BREAKING

MATRIC NUMBER: 71742

FIRST ACTIVITY: MARSHMALLOW CHALLENGE

This time, we were given 20 wooden sticks, one meter tape, one meter of string , and one colored sponge. We were instructed to build a tallest free-standing structure in 20 minutes. We divided our group into three sections, the first group making sure that material like one meter of tape was cut and sufficient. The second group, building the site and the third group constructing a strong pillar for construction .

In addition, it challenges us to communicate well with our team members, to work together, to test our patience , to be innovative , to be creative and to solve problems. Furthermore, we use the material we provide to succeed. While carrying out this activity, many ideas are drawn from each other’s ideas to ensure our building is strong. Therefore, we can conclude that receiving a team member’s opinion is very helpful.

This time, it only takes 5 minutes to complete this task. We are also working to make sure that our build is stable and strong. At the time, we were very excited to complete this task and hope that challenge will succeed. The last step is to make sure the sponge that is placed on the build doesn’t ruin our build. This last step is very challenging for our patience.

We also have a bit of pressure due to the time being almost over but it can be done well. Therefore, if we want to do group work, we can’t just follow our instructions, we also have to accept other people’s ideas. If we only have one person’s opinion then, surely not the members certainly members are not responsible for this. In doing this, we must ensure that everyone is satisfied with the proposed proposal, and does all the work that is planned to achieve good results.

Finally, we were able to successfully overcome this challenge. The result of good discussions between team members and also the guidance of the most awaited lecturers until the work is done. From this experience, we have many benefits.

SECOND ACTIVITY: BLIND SQUARE – THE PERFECT SQUARE

This activity has taught us how to be a leader and communicate well with team members. This activity also trains the person to obey  the group leader’s instructions, because if we do not hear the directions , it is unlikely that this activity will not be carried out smoothly. In this activity also, we were directed to cover the eyes with black cloth and cottan pads. Then , we were given 1 long rope to carry on the activity. While conducting the activity, we were instructed  to shape  the shapes to be round, triangle, rectangular and star-shaped. The activity is very tempting to do what we are asked to do in the dark. With the clear instructions of the group leader, it really helps us to continue the activity. We need to hear every detail of the message coming out of the group leader’s mouth.

The last shape is the star shape. The form is very difficult for us to do, but with the spirit that comes from each member of group ,we are excited to make it happen. The moral here is, we must not give up too early in spite of our efforts. We try to find a way with the help of the leader of the group, so that the desired shape is successful. Finally, we were able to form  a star shape, we were so happy when our lecturers said our shape was successful.

I am very fortunate to have a very good team member who is passionate about running an activity. Their enthusiasm has influenced me to do something that makes it successful and not easily discouraged. I wish I could continue this spirit even after this, I am directed to belong to another group. This activity really fun for me. It did a lot to reduce my stress.

PPD 1041 SOFTSKILLS AND BASIC VOLUNTEERISM
ACTIVITY: LIBRARY SKILLS

NAME: SYAZA IZZATI BINTI ISMAIL

I was assigned the task of finding a book based on the course we took, newspaper, and journals. When, I went to the library, I was very excited because it was the first assignment given to me by the lecturers, and the same time I was nervous because it was my first time stepping into the library at University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).

When I entered the library, I was amazed at the sophistication in the Unimas library. I didn’t have to search for books on every shelf because of the sophistication of the gadgets in the library. We just type the name of the book in the gadget and the gadget tells us where the book is located and at what level. This gadget also makes it easy for students and citizen of unimas. This assignment has given me the experience as a new student to recognize such a comfortable learning environment. This library is very comfortable for me because not only has a comfortable learning space but the library in Unimas also provides computers for students who want to find information about learning.

As a student who love read books, I was thrilled to find the book layout in the library very neat. This makes it easier for me to find the book. Not only that, there are many book options such as notebooks and exercise books in one shelf. In addition, many students spend their time in  this library doing their assignment. The library in Unimas also open 24 hours. Okay, back to my ealier story, we were directed by a lecturer to borrow a book to find information about the author, year of publication and to take a picture of the book as evidence. The process borrowing book here is very good and the staff at the counter also very friendly and kind.

I was assigned to meet with the academic advisor. His name is Dr Sharizal Hashim. I was very nervous before meeting with an advisor  because it was a bit of a disruption to his daily work as a lecturer. I also made sure before consulting with an advisor that I had questions to ask. Before I met, I invited my friends, because we had the same academic advisor. The first impression I met was that I was very happy , as the advisor is open, it does a little bit to make it easier for us to ask questions. The academic advisor also allowed us to ask any questions as this was related to the assignment. He also understand the situation as a student , because he first faced it. We also introduced ourselves and the academic advisor asked about our learning wether it was good or not.

When we met with the academic advisor, we talked about our expenses and we also had the opportunity to ask a little about personal academic advisor. Our advisor also responds well, all the questions we ask will be answered. He also answered our questions calmly and prudently. I respect him very much. He also advises us to study hard , so that we can get what we want. He also advised us not to stress while studying,on the classroom focus 100% and being responsible as a student. After I met, I felt that he was very responsible person to herself and to his student. He is serious, but he is serious about making sure his students are good at everything. Therefore, there are many benefits that come to me from meeting. He also gave me a lot of tips. One of the advisor’s tips for what I remember to this day is “responsible”. Because that word means a lot to me.
